Statistics:
Real Name: Tyler Gedvilas
Nickname: Ty Del Rose
How I Got It:
"DelRose" was my original last name. When coming up with ideas for band nicknames in my other band Down 'N' Dirty, Leonard,
our guitarist, thought that "Ty Del Rose" sounded badass. So I took my last name, made "Del" and "Rose" two separate
words, and that's how I got my stage name!

Drum History
-------------
I started playing Percussion in
the Meadow View Elementary School 5th Grade Band in 2001. It was actually my 3rd choice, next to trumpet and saxophone. When
I went to audition, the saxophone was too heavy for me to hold, and I couldn't blow into the trumpet the right way. But when
my band director busted out the practice pad and showed me a pattern to play, as soon as my stick hit the pad for the first
time I knew that I was destined to become a percussionist. It just came naturally. Then I played something on the bells, and
again, it was all natural for me. I turned out to be one of the more advanced students in the band, the director even told
my parents that there was nothing more he could teach me because I was so advanced.
I continued on into the Drauden Point Middle School Band, and as a result of being serious about percussion, and also
because I needed it to practice for Jazz Band auditions in 7th grade, in August 2003 I got my first drumset, a 7-piece Ludwig
Accent Combo complete with ZBT cymbals. I practiced the audition pieces until I could play them in my sleep. To my surprise,
I did not make the Jazz Band. I was so upset I actually broke down crying when I got home, because I was so passionate about
the drums and Jazz Band was something I really wanted to do.
On Valentine's Day in 2004, I began taking drum lessons at a place called Mr. Bill's in Crest Hill (the store no longer
exists). There, I studied rudiments, stick control, and eventually jazz fusion (in the style of David Garibaldi). I took lessons
from 2004 to 2006, then went on to teach myself the rest.
Over time my set expanded, eventually 7 pieces turned to 8, 8 pieces turned to 9, and so on. In 2005, I replaced my starter
ZBT cymbals with my current cymbal lineup, a complete set of Sabian Paragon cymbals (minus the 20" china). The original snare
that came with my set was upgraded to a Ludwig Supra-Phonic Snare. I picked up an old First Act bass drum off the streets
and used it as a Gong Bass Drum for a while until my dad threw it away without my permission.
I ended up taking time off the drums to pursue a rap career which got me in a lot of trouble at school, forcing me to
retire. Then, in the summer of 2007, I started an experimental/funk band with my best friends called "The Brotherhood". Around
that time Leonard and Ryan, guitarist and bassist of Down 'N' Dirty respectively, were trying to start a band with their friend
Jon Pechous, then in August of 2007 Leonard invited me to come and jam with him and Ryan, and they decided that I was a better
drummer than Jon and started a band with me instead.
We became known as SKIZM around September of 2007, and had our first "gig" at my 16th birthday party. This was before
any of us knew how to play :P
My personal first "big break" was the Mr. Cougar Pageant during my junior year. My original plan was to submit a tape
of SKIZM playing a cover of the KISS song "Detroit Rock City"...When that plan failed, I decided to bring my drums to school
and bust out a quick 5-minute drum solo. The crowd went wild, I got a standing ovation at the end and when they announced
the finalists, I was the only junior out of everyone to be a finalist.
I continued with SKIZM, we had our ups and downs but eventually we made it to our first real show, April 19, 2008, in
Ryan's basement. It definitely wasn't our best show, but we got the word out to a lot of people and we actually became known
as a band. When we picked up Steve in May, I knew we were gonna hit it big.
In the summer of 2008 all was not right with SKIZM though. Leonard decided he wanted us to solely be an 80's-style hair
metal band, and kind of had a "my way or the highway" attitude about it. Ryan and Steve were on board, but I wasn't. So at
that point, I quit the band. This was July 18, 2008. As I expected, soon everyone was begging me to come back, the fans were
telling me not to quit and all that, and after having fun on stage the next week I decided to give the band one more chance.
As much as I tried, as the weeks passed I just wasn't having fun with the music anymore. So I quit again. I did favor shows
for Down 'N' Dirty for about a month before I was finally released from my duties. :P
While I was out of the band, I focused on my solo project and started Jordan with bassist Mike Polly and former lead
singer/rhythm guitarist Hubert Bilan.
In October 2008 I got back with Down 'N' Dirty, under a promise that everyone in the band would try to watch their egos
now. In November 2008 DnD got signed to Sonic Portrait's label and to benefit them (and Jordan) in the studio I now play
a 6-piece PDP Platinum Series drumset.
But not to bash my own band, Down 'N' Dirty is going nowhere playing 80's Hair Metal. It's Jordan's time, and we're ready
to rock!! :)

FINAL WORDS:
My advice to aspiring young drummers: STUDY JAZZ FUSION. It is so much fun and you can
apply the techniques to any style of music! Study it for at least a year or two with a professional drum teacher after you
get the basics down. Take it from me: I hate hair metal, I think the drums in hair metal are super boring. But I spice my
beats up with progressive rock and jazz fusion influences!! You can do wonders with basic knowledge of jazz fusion!
